Part of Kala’s 2024 Voyage Collection, the Gardenia Tenor features artwork by Māori cultural artist Sam Mangakahia. The soft ivory gardenia design stands out beautifully against the warm mahogany body, symbolizing the theme “Resilient – Nā‘ū.”
Inspired by the endangered Hawaiian Gardenia brighamii—now down to roughly ten plants left in the wild—the artwork highlights a species once essential to Hawaiian life. Nā‘ū flowers were used in lei, stems for kapa cloth, and fruit for natural dyes. Its cultural significance and fight for survival represent creativity, purpose, and perseverance.
Each Voyage Collection ukulele includes a padded gig bag and a story-card hang tag explaining the meaning behind the artwork. UKE Republic completes every instrument with a Pro Setup, ensuring optimal tone, intonation, and playability.
